Sorin Grindeanu replaced from the helm of PSD Timis branch by Petru Andea
After being dismissed as prime minister by his PSD colleagues in parliament by censure motion on June 16, Sorin Grindeanu (photo 2) has been replaced from the helm of the social-democratic branch of Timis County, according to debanat.ro.
The website informs that the replacement was decided in Bucharest and Grindeanu’s position is to be taken over by Petru Andea (photo 1), reportedly former activist of the Communist Party before 1989.
Petru Andea has stated that he is on holiday but he was informed of the appointment two days ago. “I know about this appointment for two days. Now I am in Bucharest, I am on holiday, so I haven’t taken over the office. I will be Coordinating Vice-President,” Andea said. He is to take over the position on July 31. He will hold the same position as Sorin Grindeanu at least until party elections are organised.
Andea also said that the document on Sorin Grindeanu’s exclusion from the party has reached Timisoara. However, debanat.ro claims the appointment of Petru Aldea was not received by the PSD Timisoara branch.
Petru Andea, 67, was deputy for three terms during 2000-2008 and 2012-2015. He was chairman of the Union of Communist Students in Romania (UASCR) for Timisoara, Secretary of the Communist Party with the University Centre Timisoara and, until September 1989, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee with the Polytechnic.
During his last MP term, he was a member of the Ecumenical Group of Prayer in the Romanian Parliament. Petru Andea is a Professor with the Polytechnic and was Dean of the Oil and Gas University, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Power Engineering. This spring he was appointed Secretary of State with the Ministry of Education.
