German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier has had two bad moments during his visit in Bucharest: his Romanian counterpart offered him a booklet symbolizing the map of … France instead of Germany, but with Germany’s flag, and the plane he had to fly to Sibiu broke down.
Romanian Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu handed his German counterpart, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, a booklet with pictures and archival articles regarding the Romania-Germany bilateral relations. But on the booklet cover, instead of the map of Germany, it was printed France’s map covered with the colours of the German flag. The booklet was printed by Agerpres, the national news agency.
“It’s a misprint. In the final version, the electronic one, which we launch this evening, we corrected, of course,” said Alexandra Stefan, PR specialist with Agerpres. Agerpres representatives argue that the brochure was produced in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry, which was presented in the “last days” a copy of the brochure and had the final say before printing. “The brochure’s content is important, which is extremely valuable,” she stressed.
President Klaus Iohannis was to reach Sibiu by car, while German FM Steinmeier was to fly to Sibiu. But the plane broke down, so Steinmeier did not take off. Eventually, the German Foreign Minister arrived in Sibiu by a helicopter belonging to the Interior Ministry.
