ALDE, the party led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu, wants to withdraw from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (ALDE Europe) and has sent a letter in this regard.

The information was confirmed by ALDE Romania leaders, digi24.ro reports.

The step follows the repeated criticism from ALDE leader Guy Verhofstad.

Guy Verhofstadt has repeatedly criticized ALDE Romania regarding the position on the rule of law and justice and requested this spring to be excluded. In turn, Tariceanu informed the ALDE Europe leader that his party will not support him in the European Parliament.

ALDE Romania registered 4.1% in the recent election for European Parliament, below the 5% threshold and will not be present in the forum.
