Klaus Iohannis, Viorica Dăncilă și Dan Barna, the three main candidates running for the presidential election in Romania this year, are paying simultaneous visits to the U.S. these days.
The incumbent president Klaus Iohannis is in New York for the 74th session of the UN General Assembly from Tuesday to Thursday. PM Viorica Dancila has also left for the U.S. on Sunday and she is to meet U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence and the representatives of the Jewish community. Dancila has also met a World Bank delegation and the mayor of Jersey city. USR Chairman Dan Barna has announced he in the Unites States and will meet American politicians and businessmen, but also members of the Romanian community.
President Iohannis is attending the high level opening meeting of the 24th UN Session on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (Romania’s time).
The Romanian head of state is also attending the reception offered by the EU and the traditional reception offered by the US President Donald Trump and the First Lady for the Heads of Delegations.
In his capacity of Head of the Romanian delegation, Klaus Iohannis will deliver a national speech in the plenary session of the General Assembly on September 25. A Presidential Administration press release also informs that Iohannis will attend the High Level Political Forum on the topic of “Accelerating the implementation of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development”, and he will have an intervention within the ,,Leaders Dialogue 5 – Partnerships for Sustainable Development” session also on Wednesday.
PM Viorica Dancila has left to the U.S. on Sunday morning, accompanied by FM Ramona Manescu, Finance minister Eugen Teodorovici, Defence minister Gabriel Les, Health minister Sorina Pintea and Communications minister Alexandru Petrescu.
On Monday, the Romanian PM has met Steven Fulop, the mayor of Jersey and Ezra Friedlander, chairman of the Committee of Commemorating the Camp David Peace Treaty between Egypt and Israel. Dancila has further met the World Bank management and signed an agreement for EUR 500.0 million loan on health issues.
On Tuesday, PM Dancila is to meet OECD Secretary General, Angel Gurria and James Richard Perry, secretary for Energy, while on Wednesday she will meet Mike Pence. The encounter with the members of the Jewish community is scheduled on Thursday.
Viorica Dancila will have a bilateral meeting with the UN deputy secretary general, Amina Mohammed and a meeting with the Romanian community in New York on Friday. Dancila will also give two interviews to the New York Times and Wall Street Journal.
Dan Barna in the U.S. upon the invitation of the Center for European Policy Analysis forum
USR chairman Dan Barna has announced this morning he is the U.S. until Saturday.
“I am in the United States these days, upon the invitation of the organizers of the Center for European Policy Analysis forum. “I will have meetings with the American political and business representatives, with foreign affairs experts and with the members of the Romanian Diaspora in the U.S.“, Barna posted on Facebook.
He said he will deliver the following message, that “Romania is part of the West world” and that “the strategic partnership with the Unites States must be enhanced and doubled by an economic partnership”. “Romania will remain the main friend of the U.S. in the region. Almost 30 years after the Revolution, there is no hesitation in Romania about the direction we have to follow. And this will be seen including in the Romanians’ vote“, Barna said.
