Three women, member of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD), of the National Liberal Party (PNL) and of the People’s Movement Party (PMP) are running for a vacant mayor seat in a village from Cluj on Sunday, after the former mayor had resigned over medical grounds in May this year.

Over 2,000 people are expected to cast their vote to elect their new…mayoress.

Three women filed their candidacies for the mayor seat of the Calarasi commune: Mirela Vereş (PNL), Voichiţa Costişor (PSD) and Mărioara Popescu (PMP).

The Liberal candidate is schoolmistress, the Social Democrat contender is economist and the PMP one is business owner.

Three polling stations for the local elections will be opened in the villages of Calarasi, Bogata and Calarasi-Gara villages.

The former mayor of the commune, Ioan Racota (PNL), elected in June 2016 for a fourth mandate, has resigned in May this year, claiming medical grounds.
