The U.S. ambassador in Bucharest, Hans Klemm has stated in Miercurea Ciuc, Harghita county on Monday that the development of the  relations between the Romanian majority and the Magyar minority is a topic that the embassy is closely monitoring, while voicing hope that all minorities are fully respected in Romania.

Ambassador Klemm has met the county’s prefect, Jean-Adrian Andrei, saying he is in Transylvania for one week to visit several counties, but that he had particularly wanted to come to Harghita.

It’s the third time the American ambassador is coming to Harghita. The first time was two years ago and the second time, last winter. Hans Klemm explained he had discovered the beauty of the county and of the locals.

Asked to comment on the developments of the Romanians-Magyars relations, the U.S. envoy replied it is a topic very closely monitored, voicing hope that it is not only the Magyar minority that is fully respected in Romania, but also other minorities, too.
