In an extensive interview granted to ziare.com, UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor has approached sensitive issues regarding minorities, Republic of Moldova, domestic politics, education, justice and others.

In the interview, Kelemen Hunor explained that the Hungarian minority is not revisionist: “We do not have to stare at the past, our future is common, Romania is our common homeland, we do not want to hurt any Romanian, we do not want to take anything from any Romanian. If you say you do not want to assimilate us, we will say what we need to keep our national identity and we will manage to have an understanding.”

“Have we talked to our allies about the union with R Moldova? One cannot place a country into such an adventure, such revisionism is irresponsible in 2018. We cannot be revisionists on March 27 and not be revisionists on June 4,” – severe criticism of UDMR chairman Kelemen Hunor regarding the Declaration adopted by Parliament on the union with Bessarabia and on the speeches on this issue.

Statements: The biggest problem is who makes the important decisions: in the executive or in the party? The political class needs a pact for infrastructure, education, health and administration. There is a feeling in the Hungarian community that there are attempts to diminish the rights of national minorities. We do not want autonomy on ethnic criteria, but territorial or regional autonomy. We’re not managed by Moscow or by Washington. Probably Kovesi (DNA chief prosecutor – our note) will not be dismissed, the play is over from my point of view – I suggested that the subject is removed from the agenda. There will be no suspension (of the President) due to Kovesi. UDMR would not support the suspension. I do not think Timmermans (the First Vice-President of the European Commission and European Commissioner for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights – our note) holds the absolute truth. Romania accepts constantly to receive lessons that are valid for some, for others not. We want to keep our ethnic, cultural, linguistic identity. We’re not revisionists.
