UDMR sees no serious reason to suspend President Klaus Iohannis

UDMR does not see any serious reason to suspend President Klaus Iohannis, Senator Cseke Attila has told RFI, after PSD leader Liviu Dragnea announced that, in his view, the suspension of the President must be a serious option and that on Monday a coalition decision will be made in this respect.

“We are not aware officially of such an intention from the ruling coalition, but we have already said on this subject that we believe it is not necessary to start the procedure of suspending the President of Romania. I do not see today the serious reason of a serious violation of the Constitution, as criterion for this procedure in the Romanian Constitution,” Cseke Attila said.

In the view of the UDMR Senator, “it is clear that the CCR decisions are binding for all and have effects for all.”

“So in this case, President Iohannis will have to make a decision, but here we have a problem of lack of legislation, in the sense that there is no deadline within which the President of the Republic has an obligation to do something about a CCR decision. (…) We believe that there is a reasonable time, which is obviously not regulated, but a reasonable time, in which President Iohannis will have to make a decision … you see, here are the legal interpretations and I would not want to enter the choir of these legal interpreters,” the UDMR Senator said.

Liviu Dragnea, the Chamber of Deputies Speaker and PSD leader, said on Thursday he discussed with Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu that, from his point of view, the suspension of President Klaus Iohannis must be a serious option. Dragnea said a decision follows next Monday.
