UDMR Senator Verestoy Attila has passed away, aged 63. The information has been confirmed by his MP colleagues, digi24.ro informs. According to former UDMR Chairman, Marko Bela, he has cancer and has died in Vienna. “I regret him as politician and as friend,” Marko Bela said.
He was born on March 1, 1954 in Odorheiu Secuiesc. In 1978 he graduated the Faculty of Chemical Technology with the Bucharest Polytechnics and in 1999 he achieved the title of PhD in inorganic chemistry and environment protection of the Bucharest University.
He ran for UDMR in Harghita County in 2016 and has won the mandate as the first on the list. He was the only lawmaker in parliament since 1990, being at the eighth mandate of Senator.
On 2011 he was the victim of a car accident, with several fractures. Following the accident he remained with a handicap and was walking with a stick.
Verestoy Attila had one child and two grandchildren.
According to the latest wealth statement, Verestoy Attila owned several plots of land in Bucharest, Harghita, Ilfov, two houses in Ilfov and Cristuru Secuiesc, an apartment in Odorheiu Secuiesc and two flats in Bucharest. He also owned a BMW X3 and an Audi 8, a jewellery collection assessed at EUR 58,000 and a collection of paintings assessed at about EUR 25,000.
