The Social-Democratic Party (PSD) has cancelled the rally on May 22, when it said some 120,000 people were expected.

A PSD notification sent to Bucharest Mayor General, Gabriela Firea, informs that the party has decided to no longer organize the rally, ziare.com reports.

“We inform you that the Social Democratic Party cancels the event on May 22, 2019 that should have been organized at Romexpo,” the document signed by party’s Secretary General Codrin Stefanescu reads. The document is dated May 15, 2019.

On Tuesday, Codrin Stefanescu announced that the social-democrats want to organize a large rally at Romexpo on May 22, with 120,000 people expected to attend, with persons coming from the southern counties. Another rally will be organized in Targoviste on Sunday, he added.

“In principle, we would organize a rally next week. It’s not completely decided. The final decision will be made on Wednesday. If so, some 120,000 people will attend the rally at Romexpo, coming from the southern counties,” Codrin Stefanescu said.

He added that if the PSD analysis will reveal a rally in Bucharest is inopportune, the idea will be abandoned.

PSD organized rallies in Iasi and Galati last week. The rally in Iasi was organized on May 9, the Europe’s Day and the day of the EU Council summit in Sibiu. The rally in Galati on Saturday was attended also by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila.
