US Ambassador Klemm claims electing sentenced persons sends a dangerous message to Romania’s partners
US Ambassador Hans Klemm said on Wednesday that the fact that some persons having problems with justice have won local elections, giving as example a sentenced mayor, is sending a dangerous message to the US, to Romania’s international partners and to the citizens.
The US envoy added that the Romanian voters have had their say and have elected the candidates they liked most, adding that it is hard for him to understand their way of thinking, nevertheless the elected ones now have the chance to do their best for those who elected them.
Ambassador Klemm said political parties should focus on general elections in November and he would encourage them to select the candidates representing the future. He pointed to the fact that the problems with justice stand out in the context in which DNA is an example of fight against corruption in the region.
The US Ambassador met on Wednesday the Bucharest University students, answered their questions and delivered the speech ‘NATO in the 21st Century’.
