Valer Dorneanu, elected new president of the Constitutional Court. Three judges sworn in

Valer Dorneanu (photo 2) has been elected on Wednesday as the new president of the Constitutional Court for three years, by majority of votes.

“I was elected by majority of votes. We agreed to be a team, to keep the high level and the prestige of the Constitutional Court. We expect to have good cooperation with other state institutions, we hope they would not see CCR as the place where they send all misunderstandings,” Dorneanu said.

Valer Dorneanu was elected judge with the CCR on behalf of the Chamber of Deputies in 2013, upon the proposal of PSD. He had been previously deputy Ombudsman (2010-2013) and deputy secretary general with the Chamber of Deputies (2009-2010). He was also Chamber of Deputies Speaker during 2000-2004.

President Iohannis tells CCR judges to have high standards

The Constitutional Court has three new judges as of Wednesday, as they were sworn in on Wednesday at Cotroceni Palace, in the presence of President Klaus Iohannis (photo 1). The three new judges are Livia Stanciu, Attila Varga şi Marian Enache.

President Iohannis told the three judges he expects them to always have high professional standards and independence.

“I wish good luck to the judges that were sworn in today. I wish you all to make out the CCR a stability pole in the state’s constitutional architecture, through coherence and predictability. I urge you to always have high standards of professionalism and independence and I believe you will honour the offices handed to you,” President Iohannis said.
