Zakharova on Georgescu’s Rejection: “A Caricature of Democracy”

The events taking place in Romania are a caricature of democracy, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, Vedomosti reports.

“Even the Americans, realizing all their responsibility – not theirs personally, but that of their regimes – for what is happening in Romania, which is under the umbrella of North Atlantic influence, even they are laughing out loud, because the country has been transformed into I don’t even know what,” Zakharova told Radio Sputnik.

“This is simply a caricature of democracy,” said the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.

Maria Zakharova’s comments come after Romania’s Constitutional Court unanimously rejected all appeals against the Central Electoral Bureau’s decision to reject Călin Georgescu’s candidacy in the presidential elections on Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, AUR leader George Simion and POT leader Anamaria Gavrilă will both file their candidacies in the presidential elections following the CCR’s decision.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, after their meeting with Călin Georgescu, who said that after the BEC and CCR validate their candidacies, one of them will withdraw.

Călin Georgescu cannot run in the May presidential elections, decided Constitutional Court of Romania on Tuesday, after it had rejected the appeals regarding the decision of the Central Electoral Bureau to invalidate his candidacy, the institution announced.
