President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Viorica Dancila are to meet Wednesday morning at Cotroceni Palace, for talks, upon the request of the Presidency.
The meeting takes place in a difficult political context, with sources saying that negotiations are taking place in the ruling coalition to issue an emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon, ziare.com reports.
Sources say the meeting should have taken place on Tuesday, before the Government sitting at 14.00h, but PM Viorica Dancila has postponed it to Wednesday, digi24.ro informs.
The media speculated on a new Government sitting on Thursday, the day the parliamentary extraordinary session ends.
According to sources, PSD leader Liviu Dragnea made efforts so that such an ordinance is adopted by the Government on Tuesday, but ALDE leader, Calin Popescu Tariceanu, PSD ally in the ruling coalition, has played down such plan.
A Government sitting is scheduled on Tuesday, no agenda has been announced. Tariceanu told public television TVR Monday evening that he has been informed the Government sitting is about an emergency ordinance related to environmental issues.
The previous meeting between President and Prime Minister took place on May 15, upon the Presidency request, following the conflict regarding the relocation of the Romanian Embassy in Israel.
In late April, President Klaus Iohannis publicly requested PM Dancila’s resignation, claiming she cannot cope with the responsibilities of the office.
