President Klaus Iohannis will go to Munich during June 1-2, where he will be awarded the ”Franz Josef Strauss-2018” Prize granted by the „Hanns Seidel” German foundation. The awarding ceremony will take place at the Royal Palace in Munich on Saturday. The prize is worth EUR 10,000.
„I think it is an acknowledgement of my public position, not just in the past year, but also for the years I have been in politics. It is a prize that honors me. «Hanns Seidel» Foundation from Bavaria is one of the oldest and most respected foundations in Germany and this prize has been granted only to several politicians and I am honored that I am among them (….),” Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday.
Asked what he will do with those EUR 10,000 coming along with this distinction, the head of state said he would donate the money to an NGO. „I decided not to take the money, but to donate it for a charitable purpose. I found a foundation <One child, one hope>, which has very beautiful results and it will receive this sum.”
”Hanns Seidel” Foundation and the leaders of the Christian-Social Union in Germany have unanimously decided to grant the ”Franz Josef Strauss” 2018 Prize to the Romanian President Klaus Iohannis for promoting, in a constructive and visionary way, the democratic values, of a united society and the confidence in the European project, all through his political career, as a press release by the Presidential Administration informs.
The prize has been awarded since 1996 to personalities in politics, business or culture, with Helmuth Kohl, George H.W. Bush, Jean-Claude Juncker or Henry A. Kissinger among winners so far.
At the same time, during the visit to Munich, president Iohannis will award, in his turn, the „Star of Romania” National Order in Commander rank to Barbara Stamm, President of the Landtag of Bavaria. The awarding ceremony is due at the HQs of the Romanian General Consulate in Munich. The award comes to reward Barbara Stamm for her contribution to the Romanian-German ties and for the social projects carried out in Romania.
