PSD chairman Dragnea wants checks on all public benefit-declared NGOs

Social Democrat chairman Liviu Dragnea said on Tuesday that a check is needed on all NGOs of declared public benefit, that will also probe into the way they spent the public money. On this occasion, Dragnea criticized again US billionaire George Soros.

“I laid down a principle I hope the government will consider, that all NGOs declared to be of public benefit should be reviewed, to see if they have proven to be of such interest, indeed. Considering their declared purpose and since they also receive public funding, a rigorous check is needed to probe into the way money has been spent, because public money is also at stake. There is an army of such structures, there’s a huge number of NGOs in Romania that are indeed committed to civism, which are fair and honest, but just like in other activity fields, there might be NGOs at the limit of the law, which do not comply with the rules in force. A look into the matter is mandatory,” Dragnea told Antena 3 private broadcaster.

He also took the opportunity of attacking American billionaire investor George Soros.

“I do have something against Mr. Soros. This man and the foundations and NGOs he has been setting up for years now in Romania, since the ’90s, I think, have feeded evil in Romania, he has financed actions and none of them has done the country any good,” said Dragnea.
