PSD District 1 chairman, former PM Tudose, say the letter signed by 20 party leaders calling on Liviu Dragnea to step down exists

PSD District 1 chairman, Dan Tudorache, said on Monday that he has seen the letter signed by twenty county branches leaders, whereby Liviu Dragnea is requested to step down.

“I’ve seen it. It exists. It’s not a fake,” Tudorache said.

He added that the letter is signed only by the heads of PSD county branches, ziare.com reports.

“It is signed only by heads of county branches. There are a lot of signatures. At a certain time, when it will have the signatures of more than half of the Executive Committee members, it will become public,” Dan Tudorache said.

The PSD District 1 head argued that there are more than 20 signatures and that the letter is in fact a point of view. Tudorache claims a discussion within the party is needed and that the letter requests PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea to step down.

On the other hand, former Prime Minister Mihai Tudose has also confirmed the letter exists. Asked about the letter, Tudose said the US Statement of Independence exists, although some people haven’t seen it and did not sign it.

Mihai Tudose said he hasn’t signed the letter, as he is not member of the Executive Committee. The former PM could regain membership, if he wins the chairmanship of PSD Braila, where he will run, digi24.ro informs.

Liviu Dragnea says the position of chairman can’t be traded on the market

Social-democrat leader, Liviu Dragnea, said on Monday the position of party chairman “cannot be taken over by force, but by vote, and cannot be traded on the market.”

Dragnea said he does not know if the alleged letter, signed by some PSD county leaders, exists.

Last week, social-democrat sources say that more than 20 party branch leaders intend to request PSD Chairman, Liviu Dragnea, by letter, to summon the National Executive Committee and to step down.

The sources say that 28 leaders have signed a letter requesting Liviu Dragnea to summon the Executive Committee sitting. The signatories want a debate on the way the party is led and its future.

According to the sources, the county branches requesting Dragnea to step down are the organisations of Olt, Argeș, Giurgiu, Brăila, Ilfov, Dâmbovița, Bistrița, Prahova, Vrancea, Vaslui, Buzău, Constanţa, Cluj, Caraş Severin, Timiș, Bucharest and three district organisations. The most recent branch which joined the move is the Cluj organization.
