The censure motion against Sorin Grindeanu cabinet will be read in parliament plenum on Sunday, PSD senators’ leader Mihai Fifor announced late on Friday.
“Following closely the developments and the way they unfold, we have decided to summon our MP colleagues on Sunday. On Sunday, as of 16.30h, the censure motion will be read in the parliament plenum. This means the schedule on Sunday will be as follows: as of 15.00h the PSD and ALDE parliamentary groups sittings will take place, as of 16.00h the joint standing bureaus sitting and as of 16.30h the joint plenum of the two chambers of parliament to attend the reading of the censure motion,” Mihai Fifor said.
He added that the social-democrats will not wait ‘impassively’ to witness the developments.
“We believe it is normal for the Romanian parliament to react and to reset things in the normal order against the current developments. Two former party members are illegally and unconstitutionally trying to take over the government powers. We, the PSD and our ALDE partners, can’t just wait and witness such developments. Consequently, we want to read the censure motion on Sunday, so that Romania returns to legitimate ruling at the shortest, to become a legitimate governed country, with a legitimate government appointed by the Romanian parliament,” Fifor concluded.
The Social-Democratic Party announced on Thursday it will file a no-confidence vote against its own Government. This is a first for a Romanian party to sack its own cabinet. The censure motion was initially to be filed on Monday in Parliament, as PSD Chairman Liviu Dragnea announced on Thursday afternoon at the end of the National Executive Committee sitting.
Also on Thursday the committee decided expel Sorin Grindeanu from PSD.
“More colleagues, many of them, have proposed the decision to expel Mr. Sorin Grindeanu from PSD, it was a decision unanimously voted“, PSD Chairman Liviu Dragnea said.
