Rally to support President Iohannis suggested for June 20, in front of Parliament

The possible suspension of President Klaus Iohannis has stirred comments on the internet and an initiative surfaced to support the head of state. The organisers suggest on Facebook to have a rally in front of Parliament building, on June 20, at 14.00h.

They claim PSD-ALDE target a scenario similar to the one in 2012 when PSD and PNL suspended the then President, Traian Basescu. The rally will be called: “June 20, come on to the street! They want to suspend the President!”

“PSD could initiate the procedure to suspend President Klaus Iohannis next Wednesday, June 20, when a joint plenary sitting of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate has been summoned,” political sources said for G4Media.ro. Sources have told this website that the agenda could be supplemented with the request for suspension.

The joint plenary parliamentary sitting next Wednesday will take place upon the request of Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, in regard to the preparations on the EU Council rotating presidency for Romania, as of January 2019.

In the context in which the plan to suspend President Iohannis has been agreed upon by PSD, the joint plenary sitting would be ideal to start the procedure for suspension, the same political sources said.

Friday morning, PSD spokesman, Adrian Dobre, said for RFI the Social-Democratic Party has not discussed ‘timing’ on an alleged suspension of President Klaus Iohannis.

The statement came as on Thursday, PNL leader, Ludovic Orban, said that PSD is ready to start the suspension procedures against Klaus Iohannis next week.
