Record number of delays reported on flights from Romania in the first half of 2018

The first six months of 2018 have registered a record number of flight delays from Romania, with 505 flights taking off three hours later than the initial departure time, which affected 50,000 passengers. Last year, during the same period January-June 2017, the number of delayed flights was 213, and only 17,987 passengers were affected.

If the passengers facing such delays in 2018 asked for compensations, the sum that should be returned to them by the airline would exceed EUR 15.54 million.

Comparing to last year, the compensations would have mounted to only EUR 5 million, according to AirHelp statistics.

Among almost 34,000 flights operated during January-June 2018, 6,205 flights have reported delays from 15 to 180 minutes, and 218 flights have been cancelled. During the same period, the punctuality of the flights has stood at 80%, while the most crowded day on the airports in Romania was May 14.

Most of the delays during January-June 2018 have been reported by Tarom, Ryanair and Blue Air, while the most cancelled flights have been reported by Wizz Air, Tarom and Lufthansa.

In the first semester of the year, the charter flights have taken off and landed in due time, except the some to Spain, Tenerife and Mallorca, where delays of maximum half of hour have been reported.
