A retired teacher from Bessarabia has started from Balti, Republic of Moldova, a march to the city of Alba Iulia. He has decided to travel the distance of 600 kilometers in stages of 20-kilometer daily stages, at his own expense and through the goodwill of the people on his way.
Ion Mărgineanu hopes to reach Alba Iulia on December 1. The route is: Bălți-Sculeni- Iași-Tg. Frumos- Mircești- Hanu Ancuței- Piatra Neamț- Lacu Roșu- Gheorgheni- Praid- Târnăveni- Blaj- Alba Iulia, stiri.tvr.ro reports.
The former professor is 78 years old and has taught French and German at schools and universities in the Republic of Moldova. He translated into German the books of the writers and poets Grigore Vieru and Nicolae Dabija and works on economy.
He is one of the 278 Bessarabian MPs who signed the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova on August 27, 1991.
