Romanian pianist Horia Colibăşanu is getting ready for the final ascent in Himalaya, where he is trying to open a new route on Everest peak. The climbing is due in 2 weeks.
According to a press release sent on Friday, Horia Colibăşanu will climb the Everest peak (8,848m), in the attempt to open a new route.
The alpinist from Timisoara is currently in a base camp at 5,400 metres altitude and is waiting for the good weather to come to resume the ascent.
Horia Colibăşanu has taken the climbing route up to 7,000m altitude many times in the past weeks, has equipped path so that the final climbing should be easier, with less equipment.
The final ascent will take place by May 25 the latest when the spring season is over in Himalaya.
„It is important that we are OK, our health is good, we also need the weather to be by our side. We are talking about sun, wind, weather forecast all the time”, said Horia Colibăşanu.
He left in expedition on March 28 and is to return to Romania on June 3.
The expedition this year is the 20th international one for Horia Colibăşanu and his 15th in Himalaya.
Horia Colibăşanu is considered the most performing climber in Romania history, boasting successful ascents on eight of the 14 mountain peaks of over 8,000 high in the world.
Last year, he managed to conquer Everest peak (8,848 metres), setting a national first after climbing the highest peak in the world without extra oxygen and Sherpa.
