The Romanian Ambassador to the US, George Maior, kicked off the baseball match between Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs on Saturday, as Romania was invited to attend the ‘Taste of the World’ event, organized by Washington Nationals.
On the occasion of the “Taste of the World”, the Romanian Embassy organised an event to promote the Centenary and the Romanian cultural traditions, and the Romanian Ambassador was given the honour of giving the first kick of the match, while the Romanian flag was presented on the pitch during an official ceremony, the Romanian Embassy in Washington DC informs, quoted by hotnews.ro.
“I especially appreciate the special honour that the baseball club in the US capital made to Romania to invite us to this unique event. The fact that tens of thousands of Americans in Washington DC, have had the opportunity to learn about Romania, about the Centenary’s anniversary, about our traditions, it is a special thing that helps strengthen the ties between the two countries. I am passionate about this wonderful sport, so loved by the American people, and which mirrors, perhaps in the most faithful way, the spirit of America. That is why the more we appreciated with deference the invitation to give the start of this match,” the Romanian ambassador said, according to a post on the official Facebook page of the Romanian Embassy.
At its third edition, the “Taste of the World” event was attended by tens of thousands of American spectators.
