Romanian homeless killed in a park in Sweden. Two Swedish teens, suspects

Two Swedish teenagers are suspected of killing a Romanian homeless man in a park in Huskvarna early this month, thelocal.se reported. A 16-year-old by is currently arrested under the suspicion of killing the Romanian. Another boy, aged under 15, is also suspect.

Images featuring the teens beating and harassing the Romanian homeless man have become viral on social media.

Earlier this week police arrested the 16yo Swedish teenager, who lives in Huskvarna.  According to the boy’s lawyer, he denies allegations.

The other boy, who is too young to face criminal charges, is also suspected of murdering the man.

Another two boys, also aged under 15, have been questioned by police under the suspicion of having assaulted or harassed the victim before his death.

We have an idea of what happened,” police investigator Stefan Sundling told SVT.

The 48-year-old Romanian man, named Gheorghe Hortolomei-Lupu, also known as ‘Gica’, was found dead in a park in the town of Huskvarna, near Jönköping, earlier this month.

Gica came to Sweden about four years ago from a town near Bacau in Romania, after having lost his job at a printing company and after having divorced shortly thereafter. He lived in several other EU countries before settling down in Sweden.

He worked in the Jönköping-Huskvarna area as a fruit picker and as a bottle collector, before becoming a beggar. He was involved in Christian local aid group Kyrkhjälpen’s efforts to help other homeless EU migrants in Sweden, but his health had taken a serious turn in recent months, the above-mentioned source revealed.

The people who knew him recounted that Gica was “friendly, grateful and kind”.
