Russian Ambassador, Valery Kuzmin: Romania has become provider of destabilization due to Deveselu missiles. Political dialogue – modest

Russian Ambassador to Bucharest, Valery Kuzmin, said in an interview occasioned by the celebration of 140 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Romania, that the bilateral diplomatic relations ‘could be much better’ and argues that Moscow is trying to push ahead the deadlocked diplomacy.

Ambassador Kuzmin also claims that Romania has become a “provider of insecurity and destabilization in the region, due to the missiles in Deveselu.”

In an interview for vestidinrusia.ro website, Ambassador Kuzmin said “all these anti-missile weapons try to surround the Russian Federation’s territory and, by the way, also the one of the People’s Republic of China” and that the anti-missile equipment can also have an offensive character. “Technically speaking, these launchers can also launch Tomohawk cruise missiles, even with nuclear warheads. We are being told this is impossible,” the Russian envoy said.

The Ambassador argues that the main reasons for the diplomatic and political bilateral relations being “somehow frozen, slowed down and even, periodically, complicated, are that Romania, currently, has delegated to a certain extent the national sovereignty to the inter-state unions it is member of, the European Union and NATO and, consequently, sometimes it is not independent when making decisions.”

“By the way, there is no anti-Romanian rhetoric in Russia… Unfortunately, in Romania, the attempts to explain the logic of our position are considered threats and this is not adequate. When Putin explains why Deveselu could not be a positive or even neutral factor for us, this is understood as a threat. But, forgive us, we have to observe a logical succession: first of all – the cause, then – the consequence. The cause is Deveselu, and not the other way around,” Ambassador Valery Kuzmin said.

The Russian envoy has also said the bilateral relations could be much improved, and Russia wishes they would be better, but things are as they are.

“In terms of political dialogue, the relations are rather modest. In this regard, we are trying to push ahead this deadlocked diplomacy. Unfortunately, this has not quite succeeded and, usually, it is not the fault of the Russian Federation,” Kuzim said for vestidinrusia.ro.
