Simona Halep enters WTA all-time top 10 as she leads the rankings for 51 weeks, returns to Romania on holiday

Romanian tennis player, Simona Halep, 1st WTA, leads the rankings for 51 weeks, thus climbing in the WTA all-time top 10, equalizing Victoria Azarenka.

Halep has back problems and is not playing at the WTA Finals in Singapore. She will still have the leading position at least until she reaches 60 weeks.

Simona Halep leads by 1.500 ahead the second position, Angelique Kerber, who has climbed  according to the latest WTA rankings, third being Caroline Wozniacki.

Romania has five tennis players in the WTA top 100: Mihaela Buzărnescu – 24th position (+1), Irina Begu – 66th position (-13), Ana Bogdan – 72nd position (+1), Monica Niculescu – 82nd position and Sorana Cîrstea – 85th position (+1).

It was my best year – Halep says upon arriving home

“I am glad of what happened this year. I am happy to return home and I can hardly wait to rest, to have a nice vacation. It was my best year, for certain. I will carry out recovery treatment for the back every day, so many things would not really change. Surgery is out of the question. I still have pain in the back, but this is normal. If they go away, then I will be very positive,” Simona Halep said.

The Romanian tennis player said she wants to have a long vacation to rest.

Speaking about the award of 2018 WTA Best Player of the Year, Halep said she was happy to be in Singapore. “I am glad I can be on top, to be part of the elite. I have confidence for the future. The fact that I am the best known Romanian gives me confidence,” she said.

“I don’t know how it would have been at the WTA Finals in Singapore. I don’t want to think about it. It’s good to be home. I accept the fact that I’ve got injured for the last three tournaments of the year, I am sad for not playing in Singapore, but I am trying not to see it as disappointment,” Simona Halep said.

Halep got injured at the Wuhan tournament and was diagnosed with herniated disk.

Somina Halep climbed on the WTA top position in October 2017 and has had the first WTA position for the entire 2018. In 2018 she registered 46 wins and 11 defeats.
