The free travel metasearch momondo.ro team analyzed its search data for flights from abroad to Romania during the weekend when European Parliament elections are taking place and compared it to the other similar periods of the month.

The flight searches to Romania for the 24-26th of May weekend, when the Referendum on Justice and elections for The European Parliament will happen, are 11.3% more than the average searches for the other weekends of May.

For the previous weekend (17-19th of May) Romanians have made searches to Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Iași, Timișoara or Sibiu, 13.1% less than for the next one.

Moreover, the number of searches compared to the ones for the next weekend (31st of May – 2nd of June) is 23.3% bigger, even if another important event will be happening: the Pope Francisc visit to Romania.

The distance, not an issue

Most of the searches to Romania for the next weekend have been for flights departing from Great Britain, Germany and The United States of America. This top 3 outranked the number of flight searches starting from countries with larger Romanian communities like Italy (rank 5) or Spain (rank 8). Out of the first 10 countries most of the travelers will fly to Romania between the 24th and the 26th of May are also Denmark (rank 4), Sweden (rank 6), The Netherlands (rank 7), leaving this chart to be closed by flights departing from Belgium and Norway.

The flight searching data is based on round trip tickets searched on momondo.ro for trips made between 01.05.2019 and 02.06.2019 departing from abroad to Romania.
