12 injured after an explosion at a fair in Bucharest. One person is in serious condition

Bucharest Police has announced that 12 people suffered burns after an explosion which took place around 13.00h at the fair ‘Valea Cascadelor’, eight of them were transported to the hospital, another four receiving treatment on the site.

“The eight victims who need specialized care have been transported to Bucharest Emergency Hospital, to Universitar Emergency Hospital and to the Emergency Hospital for Plastic Surgery and Burns,” Bucharest Police announced in a press release.

“A person is seriously injured, on 60-70% of the body surface, he is 72 years old and was taken to the Hospital for Burns. There were four gas cylinders of which three were extinguished and one exploded,” said Deputy Mayor of District 6, Adrian Enache.

The Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) officials have said the explosion occurred at a camper equipped for the production and sale of food. Behind it were four gas cylinders. Supposedly the fire broke out on the four cylinders, three of them were removed, the fourth exploded. Outlets as the one where the explosion occurred are not subject to the approval/authorization in terms of fire safety, the source added.
