Two acquittals and prison sentences for the violent football fans who attacked gendarmes and protesters during the massive protest against the emergency ordinance amending the justice laws in February 2017. 12 men have been sentenced in a first court for the violent actions during the protest that took over 150,000 protesters to the street to condemn the ruling coalition’s intention to operate controversial revisions meant to decriminalize certain corruption deeds.

Among the protesters, there were also hooligans, members of the football teams’ fan clubs, namely 12 men who were sentenced to prison or probation, under the charges of assault and public nuisance.

The highest penalty is four years and a half in prison, plus a fine of RON 3,000. The other penalties are around 2 years on probation, plus community service.

Part of them must also pay non-material and financial damages to four gendarmes for their prejudices, with sums ranging from EUR 2,200 to EUR 37,000.

Magistrates from the District 1 Court have also decided to take samples of certain people, to be registered in the authorities’ data bases from now on, as they are considered dangerous.

Investigators have seized two knives from the violent fans.
