16 suspected illegal immigrants discovered by UK police in a lorry reportedly coming from Romania
Sixteen people have been detained after police received reports of immigrants in a lorry travelling on the M1. The vehicle was stopped on the motorway on Thursday afternoon shortly before 3pm, .telegraph.co.uk reports.
The lorry is reported to have begun its journey in Romania and was heading northwards from Essex.
A spokesman for the force told the BBC that the driver was Romanian, “so it may be those on board came from Romania”.
The group were assessed by the East of England Ambulance Service. They were said to be in a stable condition. A police helicopter was deployed to search the area for any more suspected illegal immigrants. The case will now be passed on to staff at the UK Border Agency, the source informs.
