Bucharest has 183 buildings that represent a public danger in case of earthquake. Only 18 such dwellings have been consolidated in the past 14 years. Bucharest City Hall says there are many concert halls and theatres in danger for their owners refuse the consolidation works.

A total of 366 buildings in Bucharest are ranked as having a seismic first-grade risk, but 183 of them really represent a public danger. Other 306 buildings are ranked as having a second-grade seismic risk, the city hall reported to Mediafax.

Too less buildings have been consolidated, only 14 during 2002 and 2012 and four during 2013-2015. Other 35 buildings have undergone consolidation works on the owners’ expenses.

100 schools have been consolidated within the program of educational infrastructure rehabilitation in Bucharest, which is confinanced by the European Investment Bank.

Among the historical monuments rehabilitated so far, there are Gabroveni Inn, Cesianu House, the old headquarters of the Bucharest City Hall, while consolidation works are in process at the Arch of Triumph, “Vasile Urseanu” Astronomic Observatory and “Nicolae Minovici” Museum.

The City Hall’s specifications came after Nottara Theatre announced it would suspend activity due to the high seismic risk of the building.
