20 pc of Romanian city residents use smart TVs

Only 20 percent of the Romanians living in the city have heard of smart TV sets and are already using them, while 70 percent of the teenagers aged 15 to 17 would like to have such a gadget, reveals a GfK study on new digital technologies conducted during April 27-May 15.

Among the new smart devices, smart TV sets are the most famous, while in cloud services are used by almost 10 pc of Romanians living in the city, with the percentage up to 25 % for those aged 18 to 24.

Mobile payments rank third, but only 1 in 20 Romanian city dwellers are using them, although three times more of them would like to. The number of users is doubling when it comes to youngsters aged 18 to 24.

The most popular device after the smart TV is the smartwatch. Yet, only 2 pc of city residents are actually using them. 34 pc would like such a device.

“The smartwatches, fitness and sports accessories have gained importance in Romania in the past months, so we started to monitor their monthly sales starting April this year. Of course, the market is a new one and there is growing potential on all sale channels,” Ileana Tilvan, Head of Digital, Retail and Technology Client Service told a press release.
