-21 degrees Celsius in Joseni, the lowest temperature this winter

The temperature dropped to minus 21 degrees Celsius in Joseni and minus 20C in Miercurea Ciuc (central Romania), the lowest temperatures countrywide this year.

Other low temperatures were registered in Toplita (-18C), Bucin (-15C) and Odorheiu Secuiesc (-12C).

Meteorologist Ilie Mojoc says the temperatures were lower than the average, but in no way were record values. The lowest temperature recorded in Romania on January 15 was of minus 32 degrees Celsius in Miercurea Ciuc and Toplita, in the years 1965 and 1974. The absolute record was in 1985, of minus 38.4C.
