50 independent taxi drivers on hunger strike in front of the Bucharest City Hall
About 50 independent taxi drivers have entered on Monday on hunger strike and are staging protests in front of the Bucharest City Hall, claiming that, although they have filed the papers for extending the taxi licenses for more than 6 months, they received no answer.
One of the representatives has stated for hotnew.ro that some of the protesters have submitted the request to extend the licenses in December 2017, others in June 2018.
“By the law 38/2003, the city hall should have issued the licenses in 30 days and to extend the transport licenses. The deadline has expired for those who filed the requests in December 2017 and for those who filed them in June 2018. The city hall has unjustifiably refused to issue the licenses or to give a reply,” the representative said.
The taxi drivers are almost desperate, because as of November 1 they have to use the new fiscal cash registers and the National Fiscal Administration Agency (ANAF) cannot tax them without the licenses. Hence, their right to work has been violated for 11 months, they only ask to work legally, the representative added.
The protest will continue until the licenses will be issued by the city hall.
