A 39-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl have arrived in the hospital Monday morning after being attacked by a bear near a block of flats in Fagaras town, central Romania.
According to ISU Braşov, the man and the girl were attacked by the bear near a block of flats in Făgăraş, on Câmpului Street.
The man suffered only a few scratches, but the teenage girl has a wound on her hip and scratches on the shoulder.
The 14-year-old girl was transported to the hospital by the Ambulance, while the 39-year-old man went to the medical unit by himself.
The Mayor of Făgăraş, Gheorghe Sucaciu, said that the bear is being searched for.
“I have notified the Environmental Guard, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Guard and the Hunting Associations, and they are currently looking for the bear. The Campului district is at the periphery, in the vicinity of the forest, it is open field. Only in the past week in the Combinat neighbourhood, bears have come down from the mountains. We have 40 notifications on this issue,” the mayor said.
The incident took place in the context in which, in recent weeks, more and more bears have descended to cities in search for food.
The rangers from several Braşov forest districts have filed requests for the shooting of six bears near Braşov, Râşnov, but also from Jiber and Şercăiţa. One of the bears entered even the dining room of Postavaru chalet.
