Another Romanian city, after Bucharest, plans to have subway. The municipality in Cluj-Napoca, central Transylvania have such a project in store, worth more than EUR 75 million.

The city hall will launch the call for tenders on pre-feasibility study of the future metro in the upcoming days, as Cluj mayor Emil Boc announced, monitorulcj.ro reports.

„I hope we’ll be able to launch the call for the tenders of the pre-feasibility study in the first 10 days of November. Investments higher than EUR 75 million need pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, according to the law,” Boc said.

The mayor explained the subway in the city will not reproduce the existing version of the metro in our country, but it will consider the latest technology evolution on subways, as the cost is lower to build one from the scratch.

In April this year, mayor Boc announced that Japanese are interested in building a metro network in Cluj-Napoca. He said back then the metro line, linking Floresti and Apahida districts, would be built in the upcoming 10-15 years. Overall, it would mean 22 km of subway lines.
