African swine fever reaches the 12th county, Giurgiu

An outbreak of African swine fever has been confirmed in a household in Giurgiu County, Branistari, Calugareni commune, the National Authority for Veterinary Health and Food Safety (ANSVSA) informs on Sunday.

The household has been placed under official supervision, disinfection was conducted and restriction for people and animal movement, f products and by-products is in place, including for means of transportation.

The Giurgiu emergency situations committee was summoned on Sunday to adopt the measures to control and prevent the spread of the disease.

The number of outbreaks of African swine fever in Romania has reached 826 in 190 localities in 11 counties, and the total number of pigs affected by the disease or slaughtered has reached almost 160,000, the National Authority for Veterinary Health and Food Safety (ANSVSA) announced on Thursday.

“The African swine fever evolves in 11 counties in 190 localities with a total of 826 outbreaks (11 of which in industrial breeding farms, one in a slaughterhouse belonging to a farm and one in a type A commercial holding) and 46 cases of wild boars. In total, 159,645 pigs affected by the disease have been slaughtered,” the ANSVSA informed.
