Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu, Kuwaiti counterpart, involved in road accident

Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu (photo) and his Kuwaiti counterpart, Ali Saleh Al Omair, who is on an official visit to Romania, have had a car accident on Thursday near Slobozia, Ialomita County (Eastern Romania).

“We had a road accident, I was in the car together with the Kuwaiti Minister. We were in the motorcade and our car hit another car … didn’t have time to go on one side. We are not seriously injured. We were on the highway on the way to Braila and the accident occurred after Slobozia. A SMURD team arrived at the site and has taken us away to the hospital in Slobozia. They have to check us, as this is the procedure. We’ve hit our noses both I and the Kuwaiti Minister, but we are well,” said on Thursday, for Agerpres, Minister of Agriculture, Achim Irimescu.

Asked who is responsible for this accident, the minister said: “I do not know, it’s hard for me to say who was guilty.”

Ialomita Traffic Police opened a criminal file for negligence following the road accident.

The police were conducting investigations at the site.

“The condition of the two officials is stable, they are both conscious. The ministers have suffered minor head trauma, their life is not in danger. The delegation’s translator has suffered a sternum injury but is out of danger,” the Ministry of Health informed in a briefing, according to Mediafax.

According to the public radio, the two ministers have suffered fracture of the nasal pyramid.

The three people involved are being further evaluated at the Emergency Unit of the Emergency County Hospital in Slobozia, will be under CT scanning. After the medical results, the doctors will decide further therapeutic conduct, reads the information from the ministry.

The accident occurred out of Slobozia on National Road 21.

Officials from the Romanian Police confirmed that among the persons injured and transported to hospital are Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu, his Kuwaiti counterpart and a woman interpreter.

The sources say that the first information claims the second car involved in the accident had been stopped on the right side of the roadway.
