Alert for torrential rains and storms in most part of the country

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a new Code Yellow alert of torrential rain, thunderstorms, wind and possible hail in almost the entire country. The weather alert is valid throughout Monday, August 15, until 10:00 p.m.

Today, August 15, from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., there will be heavy rainfall. In the mountains, in Dobrogea, locally in Muntenia, Transylvania, Moldova, Maramureș and northern Oltenia, there will be periods of heightened atmospheric instability.

There will be torrential showers, thunderstorms, wind gusts and in places gales and hail. In short periods of time or through accumulation, water quantities will exceed 25…40 l/sq m and in small areas 50…70 l/sq m.

The targeted counties are Maramureș, Suceava, Bistrița-Năsăud, Neamț, Harghita, Mureș, Brașov, Covasna, Prahova, Dâmbovița, Argeș, Vâlcea, Gorj, Sibiu, Alba, Cluj, Bihor, Arad, Hunedoara , Bacău, Vaslui, Vrancea, Galați, Buzău, Brăila, Tulcea, Ialomița, Constanța and Călărași.

The weather will remain unstable on Monday, August 15 and on August 16, mainly in the north, centre and east.
The weather authority has also issued a special weather forecast for Bucharest today from 11:00hrs to 22:00hrs. There will be potential showers, while the maximum temperature will be around 27C…28C.
However, meteorologists say that after this episode with rains and storms, heatwave will hit back, with maximum temperatures climbing to 35C-36C in some areas.
Around August 19, the weather will get cooler.
