American Councils for International Education organizes the 7th edition of the Elie Wiesel Study Tour
American Councils for International Education Romania invites Romanian students, master’s and doctoral students between the ages of 20 and 27 to apply to participate in the Elie Wiesel Study Tour program that will take place between August 25 and September 4, 2024.
The Elie Wiesel Study Tour thematic program, now in its seventh edition, is funded by the Embassy of the United States in Romania, the Polish Institute in Bucharest, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Romania and the Embassy of the State of Israel in Romania and aims to offer interested students on the subject of human rights and the history of the Holocaust, the opportunity to understand more about these subjects and to deepen the knowledge held.
The program will take place between August 25 and September 4, 2024 and offers 15 scholarships that cover the costs of participation: accommodation, half-board meals, visits to places representative of the topic addressed, as well as promotional materials.
This year’s edition will include visits to the Elie Wiesel Memorial House, the Budapest Jewish Quarter, the “Shoes along the Danube Promenade” Memorial, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum Complex, the Kazimierz Jewish Quarter in Krakow and the Schindler Factory. Participants will have various team building activities, debates, workshops and information sessions.
Throughout the study visit, the group will be accompanied by a specialist teacher who will provide them with all the information about the places visited, facilitate thematic debates and challenge them to develop their critical thinking. After completing the program, each of the 15 participants will organize an activity to disseminate the information acquired in the faculty or community from which they come.
Eligibility criteria
- The program is open to students, masters and doctoral students who meet the following cumulative conditions have Romanian citizenship;
- They are at least 20 years old and at most 27 years old when the program starts (August 25, 2024);
- They are currently students, masters or doctoral students in the rural or urban environment, in the country or abroad, in any study profile; They have an advanced level of knowledge in English;
- They demonstrate interest in the subject of the program;
- They are willing to organize at least one dissemination activity at the end (article, interview, local conference, etc.).
