ANAF director, on remand for EUR 1 M bribe

A director in the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF), former director of the Communications and Statistics direction within the National Customs Authority, has been taken on remand on Thursday night for corruption charges.

Anti-corruption prosecutor from Ploiesti have taken Ancuta Anda Macovei on custody for bribe taking.

Investigators say that in 2010, when she was heading the direction of communications and statistics within the National Customs Auhority, Ancuta Anda Macovei would have pretended for herself and for another person 25% of the value of some maintenance contracts for the applications of the Customs Integrated Informatics System from the representatives of two companies in exchange for handling the public sale procedure so that the two companies should win the auction.

Prosecutors claim that Macovei would have received the total sum of EUR 1 million for her and for the other person, as well as a trip to the USA and valuable goods during 2010-2014.
