Another five men under preventive arrest in the violence case during protests
Five people initially placed under judicial control by the District 1 Court in the violence acts during protests in Victoria Square in Bucharest were arrested for 30 days on Friday. The ruling is final.
The District 1 Court ordered the judicial control against the five men on February 24, along with the preventive arrest against another defendant, Alexandru George Timinschi, the latter being charged with abetment in assault, assault and public nuisance.
The violent acts occurred on the night of February 1 when during the massive anti-corruption rally in Victoria Square, Bucharest. Despite the peaceful protest of those about 100,000 demonstrators, a group of alleged football supporters came and acted violently, throwing glasses, recipients and pieces of ice to the gendarmes who were overseeing the rally.
Five people needed medical aid following clashes and a gendarme was severely injured.
