Bad Weather Warnings for Eastern and Southeastern Romania: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds
Hydrologists have updated the flood alerts for rivers in Moldova and Dobrogea.
Meteorologists updated severe weather warnings on Thursday. Seven counties in the east and southeast of the country are under a yellow code of heavy rain until 6 p.m. Another yellow code of strong wind, for the same region, is valid until 9 p.m. From this evening until Friday at 18:00, Constanța county and the east of Tulcea county will be under a yellow code of torrential rain and strong wind.
Thus, the first yellow code of heavy rains issued on Thursday by the National Meteorological Administration is valid on Thursday, between 10:00 and 21:00, when there will be periods of rain in the counties of Neamț, Bacău, Vaslui, Galați, Vrancea, Tulcea and Constanța. In short periods of time or through accumulation, the water quantities will be 15…20 l/m2 and isolated more than 25 l/m2.
The second yellow code issued by ANM refers to wind intensifications. The warning is valid on Thursday, between 10.00 and 21.00. During the mentioned period, in the counties of Galați, Vrancea, Buzău, Brăila, Ialomița, Călăraşi, Constanța and Tulcea, the wind will temporarily increase with speeds generally of 50…60 km/h.
Rain and wind on the coast
The end of the day brings a new yellow code of heavy rains and intensification of the wind, valid in Constanța county and the east of Tulcea county. The warning will be valid between September 19, 9:00 p.m. and September 20, 6:00 p.m. In the mentioned interval, on the coast the wind will continue to show intensification, with speeds of 50…55 km/h and temporarily 60…65 km/h. Locally in Constanța county, in the first part of the night there will be showers, and in short intervals of time or through accumulation, the amounts of water will generally be 20…30 l/m2.
Locally and temporarily there will be strong wind gusts in the southern regions as well as in the mountains.
How will the weather be in Bucharest
On Thursday, the daytime thermal values, lower compared to the previous day, will be below the multi-year averages specific to this date in Bucharest. The sky will gradually become cloudy, and in the second part of the day and at the beginning of the night, it will rain briefly. The wind will generally blow moderately, with speeds of 30…35 km/h. The maximum temperature will be around 20 degrees, and the minimum will be 11…13 degrees.
On Friday, the temperatures will be close to the climatological normal for the date. The sky will be temporarily cloudy, and the wind will show some intensification, with speeds of 40…45 km/h. The maximum temperature will be around 24 degrees.

From Thursday afternoon, an orange code will come into force for rivers in the Bârlad, Siret and Prut hydrographic basins. At the same time, a code yellow warning was issued for rivers in Neamţ, Vaslui, Iasi, Galati, Botoşani, Tulcea and Constanţa counties.
Thus, from Thursday, from 2:00 p.m. until Friday, at 9:00 a.m., an orange code will come into force on the rivers in the hydrographic basins: Bârlad – left tributaries related to the downstream sector of the Vaslui hydrometric station (counties: Iasi, Vaslui and Galati) ; Siret – left tributaries related to the downstream sector of the Lungoci hydrometric station (Galaţi county); Prut – tributaries related to the downstream sector of the Drânceni hydrometric station (counties: Vaslui and Galati).
Also, a yellow code warning was issued, starting from Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. until Friday, at noon, on certain sections of rivers in the counties: Neamţ, Vaslui, Iaşi, Galati, Botoşani and the Dobrogea rivers , in the counties of Tulcea and Constanta.
The targeted phenomena consist of important discharges on slopes, torrents and streams, rapid floods on small rivers, with possible effects of local flooding and increases in flows and levels, with the possibility of exceeding the defense quotas.
“We continue to recommend the population to respect the measures ordered by the authorities and to avoid circulation in the areas under the influence of the hydrological codes”, the hydrologists sent.
