The first airline flights will land on Aurel Vlaicu Airport in Baneasa early next year, and the next phase of works for two new terminals will start at Henri Coanda – Otopeni Airport, CNAB director Alexandru Ivan has announced on Wednesday.

Baneasa Airport, which has not operated flights in the past 7 years, will be reopened and will also serve the air traffic for EURO 2020.

At Otopeni, rehabilitation works for runways will be carried out and the first phase of expropriations and auctions will begin for a development project launched in the 1990s for two new terminals of 18,000 square meters and 26,000 square meters respectively. The project virtually doubles the airport’s capacity and has a value of EUR 800 million, a sum from the company’s own budget, the director said.
