The Bucharest General Council has voted on Thursday to allot RON 15 million (approx. EUR 3.3 million) for the Cathedral of National Redemption by 31 votes ‘for’ and 20 ‘against’.
Bucharest Mayor Gabriela Firea pleaded before the vote in favour of the financial support, as this is more than just a church. She promised that, at the next council meeting, she would submit an investment plan for hospitals “much more expensive than the one for the cathedral.”
The council also voted for a RON 4.5 million (approx. EUR 1 million) as support for Antim Monastery.
Thursday morning the PNL councillors announce they would not vote in favour of granting the support for the cathedral.
