Bucharest general mayor, Gabriela Firea, has announced on Monday that she had asked the Municipal Company for Streets, Bridges and Passageways to cancel the tender to buy street furniture worth up to RON 110 M (around EUR 23 M). Firea has also ordered sanctions.
„Considering information in the mass media, that the Municipal Company for Streets, Bridges and Passageways Bucharest has launched a tender to purchase street furniture, whose value can reach up to RON 110 million, mayor Gabriela Firea has asked the municipal company to cancel the procedure immediately,” reads a press release by the Bucharest City Hall.
Firea also announced the leaders of the company will be sanctioned and that checks would be conducted , „as street furniture should not represent a priority for this company, but the raw materials needed for the infrastructure works”.
The city hall added that the Municipal Company for Streets, Bridges and Passageways had pledged to start major infrastructure works, such as Prelungirea Ghencea, Nicolae Grigorescu-Splai Dudescu Passage (second phase), Doamna Ghica Passage, and these are priorities not the urban furniture.
The Municipal Company for Streets, Bridges and Passageways wanted to buy benches, dust bins, planter boxes and other street furniture, with the estimated value exceeding EUR 23 million.
