Interior Ministry gave up setting up a refugee centre in Tășnad town, Satu Mare county after locals vetoed it.

Late last year, the Romanian Interior Ministry announced it would set up a centre for refugees in Tășnad. UDMR local branch initiated a public consultation initiative regarding this topic.

“Over 1,000 inhabitants in Tășnad joined our initiative and answered the inquiry. The result clearly shows that people oppose this centre for refugees. The inhabitants’ wish was eventually respected,” Tășnad mayor, Pataki Csaba said.
