A church in Constanta County is to be auctioned due to debt of over RON 350,000 it reportedly has to the construction company that completed the rehabilitation works. The Archdiocese of Tomis says it is illegal because, according to the law, a church cannot be sold. In addition, the Archdiocese states that it has begun mediation between the parish and the builders to terminate this dispute.

A court bailiff, on the basis of a final court decision finding a debt of RON 350,000, has begun the enforcement against the Bugeac Parish in Ostrov commune at the request of a construction company, informs.

The auction for the sale of the respective church has been set on April 3, the building being assessed at RON 423,000.

The spokesman for Tomis Archdiocese, Priest Eugen Tanasescu, says the decision to auction a church is illegal.

The archbishop’s spokesman also said that the Bugeac church was built in 1863, and in 2009 started the rehabilitation works that lasted until 2017.
