The Romanian Coast Guard has fired on a Turkish fishing vessel. There are indications that the crew was illegally fishing in Romanian waters. The ship was about 65 nautical miles away from Constanta, in Romania’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

Because the crew did not stop at the border police’s call, law enforcement officers have used the weapons to warn them, TVR public broadcaster informs.

The crew has managed to escape.

The fishing vessel having the poachers onboard had been involved before in criminal activities. There are currently 3 criminal files pending.

Generally, Turkish poachers fish flat-fish. Some 1.4 tons of flat-fish were seized last year.
