The hydrologists have issued a Code Red for the rivers in Bistrita-Nasaud County, on the Sieu River, tributary to Somesul Mare River, until Tuesday at 24.00h. The code came into force at 15.00h on Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday they have issued a Code Orange in force until Wednesday at 14.00h for rivers in Maramures, Satu Mare and Bistrita Nasaud counties and Code Yellow in force until Wednesday at 24.00h for rivers in Maramures, Satu Mare, Bistrita Nasaud, Cluj, Harghita, Mures, Covasna, Brasov, Suceava and Neamt counties (central and north-western Romania).
Significant flows are expected on the slopes, with torrents and streams, rapid floods on small rivers with possible local floods and increases in flows and levels of some rivers in the above mentioned river basins, with the possible exceeding of the defence levels.
In Bistrita-Nasaud County, 80 people – 40 in Viişoara, Bistrita town, and 40 in the commune of Budacu de Jos – have already been preventively evacuated due to floods caused by torrential rains. The people evacuated are temporarily housed by relatives or neighbours whose homes are not at risk of being flooded.
